Hi, I’m Matt, an architect and maker based in London with over a decade of experience designing high-quality buildings and furniture. I founded Fallow Studio in 2021 as an antidote to the years-long process of constructing buildings, to work on innovative small-scale digital fabrication projects that can be realised rapidly.
Fallow Studio is an interdisciplinary research, design, and fabrication studio dedicated to sustainable thinking, technological innovation, and regenerative materials. In a world driven by excess and overproduction, Fallow Studio strives for something different. We embrace the concept of ‘lying fallow’ - avoiding surplus production and instead making only when it is necessary and when resources are available.
RESEARCH
We study brief, client and place, explore FSC-certified timber and alternative natural materials, and re-think joints and details while refining workflows so the solution genuinely supports how life plays out in the space.
DESIGN
We rapidly test concept options and cost/complexity, create life-like visualisations to simplify decisions, and produce clear 2D/3D CAD for precise communication and fabrication.
FABRICATION
We make on demand; using CNC routing for high accuracy and hand finishing for quality and character; keeping overheads and waste low while delivering durable, scalable solutions.
Our approach
We prioritise simple, durable solutions: smart joinery, timber-first materials and systems designed for disassembly and reuse. Every project is informed by buildability - we design with the workshop in mind so ideas translate cleanly into made objects.
